MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION

Home / Mindfulness And Meditation

There are numerous benefits of using our online meditation UK service:

The study and practice of mindfulness helps us to create space within and leads to the experience of meditation (a meditative state). There are many techniques that lead to meditation. Your teacher will guide you to find your inner centre by concentrating your attention on an object (through body sweeping, the breath, a simple mantra or visualisation) until that itself will dissolve slowly into presence and being in the moment. You will gradually become aware yet detached from your surroundings, objects, words, thoughts or actions.

The journey may not be perfect, in facts the focus is on enjoying the practice with its ebbs and flows. Practicing mindfulness and meditation facilitates a sense of calm, trust and harmony. It influences positively the way we navigate through life circumstances with more awareness and grace.

Psychotherapy and mindfulness

The word ‘Mindfulness’ has been widely used in recent years, suggesting meditative practices and techniques. At The Mindful Practice, we believe that Mindfulness is so much more than that.

It is the way we exist in our world and the present moment. It is the way we engage, establish contact and connect with others and all things around us. We believe that Mindfulness is a practice - a way of being in the world with awareness and the ability to stay present. A way of connecting to others authentically, truthfully and respectfully.

Research suggests that a therapist’s ability to connect and be present with a client is the most influential factor in the healing process.

At The Mindful Practice, we strive to be Mindful therapists, by staying aware of our own selves in the service of our clients.

Psychotherapy and meditation

Psychotherapy and Meditation can be considered as complementary practices. Meditation can help develop a deeper awareness of our inner experiences, including our body, thoughts and feelings.

Certain types of psychotherapy such as the Gestalt model give particular importance to our bodily experiences on a somatic level, as well as our ability to stay in the ‘now’, to be in the present moment by moment.

Science has proven that our bodies process information faster than our minds, which means that learning to be aware of our bodies can help us recognise unhelpful habitual responses in everyday life. Both meditation and psychotherapy support our ongoing healing processes by cultivating a deeper understanding of our whole selves – mind and body, as well as strengthening our capacity for presence. Both practices are about suffering less with an accepting and caring attitude. Psychotherapy and Meditation help us create deeper connections with others and ourselves.

Wherever useful and appropriate, some of our therapists, therefore, incorporate creativity and meditation techniques in their practice. This practice helps to ground and support the safe emergence of your therapeutic process.

Psychotherapy and Meditation techniques support people to become aware of their felt experiences. Psychotherapy practices provide a safe ground to hold emerging experiences, as those can sometimes be challenging and even scary. We are glad to be able to offer (mindfully) both the investigative and accepting nature of psychotherapy alongside the grounding and flexible approach of meditation.
